History of Polaris® ATVs

Polaris® began its powersports pursuits in 1945 when they built one of the first successful snowmobiles out of scrap metal. This initial creation saw great success with many customers scrambling to get their hands on a model. These early sales allowed Polaris® to grow and expand into other powersports vehicle creation.

The first Polaris® ATV, known as the Trailboss, emerged in 1985. This iconic model is known as the first American-made ATV and laid the foundation for the cutting-edge models to come.

Soon after the Trailboss hit the market, Polaris® analyzed the ATV market and noticed that most models were challenging to handle, which reduced customer enjoyment. The company went back to the drawing board determined to address these issues. The following Polaris® ATVs came with many upgrades that are now standard features, such as automatic transmission, independent rear suspension, four-wheel drives, full floorboards, large bore four-stroke engines, and more. These features helped increase Polaris® ATV sales. By 2008, the company had sold their one millionth Sportsman® ATV!
